About Us

Laird Foshay dsc_4671_2
Proprietor, Winegrower

Born in Nova Scotia, Laird grew up in Palo Alto, California. After college at UCSB, he spent 10 years publishing magazines, including Dr. Dobb’s Journal, the longest continuously published small computer magazine. In the 1990s he brought investment newsletters to the Web with a startup called INVESTools. After selling that business he “retired” to the ranch. He started planting our vineyard in 2001 and has really never slowed down. Laird can be found in the vineyard,  fixing broken fences, splitting wood or on horseback gathering cattle. He is a co-founder and partner of J&R Meats in Paso Robles. He enjoys hunting, riding, BBQ, golf, or just rambling on the ranch with a gun, a dog and plenty of ammo.

Lisa Foshay2005_1024image0027-2
Proprietor

Lisa grew up in Los Gatos, studied journalism and music in college, and left her marketing job to be a full time mom. Since then it’s been a whirlwind of kid duties, working for their schools and a few favorite charities. She spent 10 happy years finding authors to speak at an annual charity fundraiser in Palo Alto. Since moving to Paso Robles her commute has grown longer, but it’s a much prettier drive. She helps out with the vineyard and cattle, manages the Little Ranch House, and takes care of the books, house, garden, pets, and children. She loves to hike, cook, garden and read, and dreams of one day having more time to write.

Shannon Gustafsonshannonpic3-1
Winemaker

Shannon joined Adelaida Springs Ranch as Rangeland winemaker in 2009, after working on our 2008 wines at Zoller Wine Styling. She spends the entire growing season as a hands-on grower in the vineyard, so she has a rare level of involvement and control over the entire wine-growing and -making process. She has previously worked at such notable California wineries as Talley, Gainey and Testarossa. She gained international experience working harvests in Bordeaux and Australia. She studied and received her Bachelors Degree in wine production from Fresno State, where she also minored in chemistry and French.

Nathan Stuart
Vineyard Managernathan

Nathan joined us in the summer of 2011 to help manage the vineyard, support Shannon in the winery and get us started grazing sheep in the vineyard. He brings several years of experience with vineyards, winemaking and hospitality in Valle Guadalupe in Mexico. He also has beekeeping experience, so look for Adelaida Springs Ranch lamb and honey in 2012. Nathan was born in Paso Robles and he's excited to be back on the Central Coast.

Sam, Jackson, and Angeline Foshayimg_0648small

Our three children have played a big role at the ranch over the last 10 years. Our oldest, Sam, is in his final year at Chapman University in Orange, CA where he is studying business and music. For the past several summers he has worked on the ranch, primarily watering, weeding and gophering in the vineyard, and building fences to expand and reorganize our cattle pastures.

Our second son Jackson is a sophomore at UCLA, where he is still undeclared--but busy! In addition to his studies he is a DJ for UCLA Radio and is tutoring at an elementary school in Los Angeles.  He too has spent summers laboring in the vineyard and working with the cattle, growing his college fund and his muscles.

Our youngest, Angeline, is a high school junior who loves animals and is the first to suggest an addition to the pet brigade. She enjoys riding her horse, especially to gather cattle, and has developed an interest in photographing life on the ranch. She stays busy playing soccer and is now happily driving herself to school, sports and social events.
