2010 Syrah / Mourvedre
Price per Unit (piece): $32.00 Club Price per Unit (piece):? $25.60Tasting Notes:
Syrah's robust gaminess and smokey characteristics are complimented the fresh fruity Mourvedre bouquet, including hints of blueberry and blackberry and flavors of leather, clove, and vanilla. This wine will pair nicely with hearty lamb dish or duck.
Grower Notes:
We planted our first Rhone varieties, Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre in 2008, so 2010 is our inaugural harvest of both Syrah and Mourvedre. The Syrah is growing well on both our limestone soils, where it is head trained (uncommon for Syrah due to shoots easily breaking off), and on our dryer sandstone soils where it is trellised in a bilateral cordon. The Mourvedre has a neat vertical growth habit and is well suited to the head training style we are using. With several oak trees nearby, it is hard to believe that these vines can compete, but these young vines show promise with their ability to produce fruit in stressful growing conditions.
